If you’re renting an apartment in Germany, chances are you have neighbors with cats that regularly go outside. While that might seem perfectly normal to your average German, I personally found it to be one of the strangest aspects of life in Germany. In the USA (at least, where I’m from) you only have an outdoor cat if you live…Continue Reading
My husband and I are planning to do a bike tour of Bavaria this Summer. It’s not my first choice for a vacation, but it’s a good compromise since I want to see Bavaria and he wants to cycle. So, I’ve been “training” for at least a half hour every day, with the intention of working up to longer rides.…Continue Reading
As many of you with an interest in Germany already know, privacy is a big concern for most Germans. The first time I added one of my husband’s German friends on Facebook, I didn’t realize he was using a fake name. He had split up his first name, so that it appeared on Facebook as Tor Sten. Up until a…Continue Reading
I’ve had access to a computer and the Internet since about age nine. If you’re young, that probably doesn’t seem like a big deal. I’m 30-years-old, though; not many of my fellow Americans were going online in the mid-90’s. From day one, I was obsessed. While other kids were sneaking out of the house, I was sneaking online. Getting grounded…Continue Reading
A recent poll has revealed that many Germans don’t like Halloween. That’s a real shame, as it’s quite clearly the best holiday. Also, they could really use a buffer between Summer and Christmas. There have been Christmas decorations for sale here since late September, and the Christmas lights have been glowing downtown since mid October. Bah, humbug.
I was supposed to have a post up last week about our visit to Prague. Unfortunately, as it sometimes does, life got in the way! The post is all ready to go. I just need to get the pictures I took off of my husband’s cameras. Fingers crossed, that post will be up this Thursday. In the meantime, I’ve decided to…Continue Reading
This past weekend, we attended the Tag der Niedersachsen, which was held right here in Wolfsburg. This festival was for the entire state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). I’d compare it in size to a county fair in the USA. More than half of the booths were businesses, clubs, and other organizations trying to garner interest in what they’re selling or…Continue Reading
I’ve never been a car enthusiast. Unless it’s a sports car or several decades old, I have no idea what my husband finds so appealing when he points out a “cool” car. So it may come as a surprise to some people when they find out that my favorite place to go as a very young child was AutoWorld, the…Continue Reading
